PAYNE ROSE Russelle Payne Rose, 87, of 3910 Potts Creek Road, died, Sunday, November 7, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Rose was born September 12, 1923 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Lacy and Lettie Baker Rose. He served his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Rose retired in 1974 as a Master Mechanic after 15 years with VDOT at the Pinehurst Shop. Following his retirement he combined his skills as a mechanic with his love of old Ford trucks, especially those of the 1970's, and became known as the source for information or parts for Ford trucks of those years. Payne was a member of the Persinger Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Madeline Colley Rose in 1996, a granddaughter, Amy Rose; three sisters, Myrtle Colley, Dessie Lamb and Dorothy Cooke and one brother, Clyde "Jack" Rose. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and April Rose and Russelle and Janice Rose, all of Covington; one daughter, Libby Rose of Covington; four grandchildren, David and Connie Rose, Janelle and Steve Caldwell, Kim Rose, and Tammy and Ronnie Bennett all of Covington; eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and three special friends, Leonard Persinger, Paul Dameron and Joe Weikle. Memorial Information The family suggests that memorial donations in Mr. rose's name may be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637 , Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
