James Eric Shinault, 70, of 119 Cline Meadow Road died Monday, March 16, 2015, at his home. Mr. Shinault was born September 19, 1944, in Alleghany County a son of the late Raymond R. and Elizabeth Miller Shinault. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Raymond Shinault, McKinnley Shinault, Tollace Shinault, Jerry Shinault, Donnie Shinault and Dennis Shinault and by one sister, Evelyn Clark. Mr. Shinault had retired in 2007 from the Contractor Sales Department of the former True Value Hardware Center in Covington. Since his retirement he had served as a parts deliveryman for Wilson's NAPA store in Covington. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the U. S. Army. Surviving are his Wife of 43 years, Loretta Shires Shinault, of Covington; two Daughters, Jaime Bruce of Covington and Christie Alvaro and her Husband, Dennis, of North Port, FL; four grandchildren, Cate Alvaro of North Port, FL, Kasey Ruble of Richmond, Kassie Bruce and D.J. Bruce both of Covington; three Brothers, Ernest Shinault and Ted Shinault, both of Covington and Victor Shinault of Clifton Forge; a host of nieces and nephews including Pam Bailey; his sister-in-law, Sharon Hovanski and her husband, Joe, of Wilmington, NC, and his "other daughter" Lorie Craft, of Roanoke. The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Brown officiating. Internment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park with graveside rites being conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Active pallbearers will be Cory Bailey, David Bailey, Robert Shifflett, Ryan Shinault, Earnie Shinault and Austin Southern. Alternates will be Donald Shinault, Jr., Shawn Thacker, Scott Shinault and Jason Ridley. The family will receive their friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
