Albert Bud “Chipper” Arritt, Jr., 76, of Covington, died Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at TerraBella Pheasant Ridge Assisted Living in Roanoke.

He was born August 31, 1950, in Lexington, a son of the late Albert B. Arritt, Sr., and Elizabeth Jean Ryder Arritt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David L. Arritt, Sr.

Chipper graduated from Covington High School in 1968 and continued his education at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and the University of Virginia. He was employed until retirement as a Process Control Engineer in the Carbon Department at MeadWestvaco. Chipper was an avid college basketball fan, enjoyed farming, was fond of dogs, was a former member of the Boiling Springs Ruritan Club, and served in the Army Reserves for seven years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Linda Rothwell Arritt; a son, Josh Arritt of New Castle; a daughter, Emily Arritt of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Cora Arritt, Benjamin Arritt, and William Arritt; a sister-in-law, Betsy Arritt of Covington; a brother-in-law, Stephan Rothwell of Covington; an aunt, Carlene Gibson of Covington; an uncle, Hal (Ruby) Sharp of Covington; cousins Carla (Larry) Harrah of Covington and Brian Grimes; and many other family members.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.

Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes in Albert B. Arritt’s name be made to the Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington, VA 24426.
