Jerry Mills, of 1927 S, Byrd Ave, passed away Monday May 2, 2016 at his residence. He was born December 13, 1940 in Covington, son of the late John R. and Altha Gibson Mills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Edward Pack Garman and a brother-in-law, Tommy Garman. Mr. Mills retired in 2002 from MeadWestvaco after 44 years of service. He was an assisting baseball coach at Covington High School for 18 years and member of Faith Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Wanda Garman Mills of Covington; his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Ronald Stark of Yorktown; two grandson, Evan Stark and Owen Stark, both of Yorktown; two brothers, Randy Mills and his wife Dianne of Pleasanton, CA and John D. Mills of Covington; his mother-in-law, Virginia Garman of Covington; two nieces, Meredith Mills of Dallas, TX and McKenzie Mills of Pleasanton, CA and a nephew, David Mills of Christiansburg. The Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 6, 2016 at 6:00 PM at the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Price officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Parham, Billy Evans, Richard Hastings, Sr., Alan Lodge, Greg Bartley, David Warf, Craig Poague, Dr. Mark Kirk and Jim Woodson. Following the service, the family will receive their friends at the funeral home.
