James Carl Baker, Sr., 75, 1325 N. Alleghany Ave., died Friday August 31, 2018 at the English Meadows Elks Home in Bedford. He was born May 28, 1943 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Ohmar and Lizzie Smith Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by six brothers and sisters. Mr. Baker retired from the Power House at Westrock after 43 years of service. Jim was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was an avid bowler, loved hunting and camping and was a member of the Ponderosa Hunt Club. Jim was a loving Husband, father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Uncle. Surviving are his wife Ann Watts Baker of Covington; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Sissy Baker of Williamsburg; Jeff and Jackie Baker of Covington; Mark and Becky Baker of Roanoke; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and a numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Daniels officiating, assisted by the Rev. Lloyd Camp. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. The family will receive their friends from 1PM until service time and at other times at the family home at 1325 N. Alleghany Ave., Covington, VA 24426. Memorial denotations in Mr. Baker's name may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, 1403 D. Dee Street, Covington, VA 24426.
