Carol Ann Carpenter Lipes,73, of Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center died Wednesday July 27, 2016, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was formerly of Covington. She was born June 10, 1943, in Leonard Town, Maryland, a daughter of Mildred Taylor Carpenter of Low Moor and the late Lawrence Eugene Carpenter. In addition to her Father, Carol was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Jerman, in 2009. Carol was a graduate of Covington High School. She was employed at the former Buddy and Sonny's Restaurant in Covington and also at Geico Government Ins. in Maryland. She enjoyed skating, singing and spending time with her family. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a Daughter and Son-in-law, Carol Lynette and Dwaine Lawhorn of Fort Mill, SC; one grandson, Jason Lawhorn of Fort Mill, SC; two sisters, Linda Hippert and her Husband, Richie Hippert, Sr., and her Guardian, L. Gail Elson and her Husband, Jeff, all of Covington; one brother, Michael Carpenter and his Wife, Hilda, of Randallstown, MD, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 3:00 PM at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. Activepallbearers will be Michael Carpenter, Richie Hippert, Sr., Jeff Elson, Tony Markland, Richie Hippert, Jr. and Mark Thompson.
