James William "Bill" Railey, Jr., 73, of 8104 Dunlap Creek Road died Friday, October 6, 2017, at his home. Mr. Railey was born July 30, 1944, in Alleghany County a son of the late James W. Railey, Sr. and Gladys Knighton Railey. Bill was a veteran of the Vietnam War Era with the U.S. Army and retired after 25 years from the Army National Guard with the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from the Mead Westvaco Low Moor Converting Plant in 2009 after 25 years with MWV. He was a Life Member of the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department serving for over 25 years. He was a longtime member of Mallow Presbyterian Church where he was active with the Men of Missions. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Gloria Collins "Medgie" Railey of Covington, two daughters and sons -in-law, Melinda and Robert Booth of Covington; Cheryl and Rob Cantanio of Clemmons, NC; one son and daughter in law, Brent and Cresent Railey of Greenville, SC., eight grandchildren, one sister, Barbara and Raymond McCourt of Chesterfield and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM in Mallow Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating. Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park with graveside rites by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive their friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home. The family suggests that donations in Mr. Railey's name be made to Mallow Presbyterian Church; 2004 E. Mallow Road; Covington, VA 24426.
