LUTHER SIMMONS Luther Layne Simmons, 66, of 316 Horse Mountain View died this morning, June 5, 2009, at his home. Mr. Simmons was born June 30, 1942, in Alleghany County a son of the late Oliver Howard Simmons and Bessie Tucker Simmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Marie Simmons. He had retired in 2005 from the #8 Paper Machine at MeadWestvaco Corp. He was a former employee of Hercules, Inc. at the Covington plant. Surviving are his Wife, Martha Boguess Simmons of Covington; his Son, Michael Simmons of Goodview; his Daughter, Kathy Carson of Covington; four grandchildren, Devon Nicely and her husband, Billy, Layne Carson, Adam Simmons and Austin Simmons; two great grandchildren, Anthoney and Kaylee and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral service will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. William M. Hartsfield officiating. Interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery. The family will receive their friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
