Jerry Whitley Allard, 68, of 2800 Schoolhouse Road died Friday, June 9, 2017, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Mr. Allard was born May 21, 1949, in Norfolk a son of the late Garland W. and Lizzie Morris Allard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Garland Montgomery, James Allard and Bobby Morris and one sister, Rose Marie Allard. Jerry was a veteran of the Vietnam War and had retired from the U. S. Army with a number of medals including Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a member of the Dunlap Christian Church. He was a member for over 40 years and Past Commander of the Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his Wife, Sandra Bess Allard, of Covington; his Son, Travis Allard, of Covington; two brothers, Gene Allard of Covington and Wayne Allard of Floyd, three sisters, Doris Armentrout of Covington, Rose Enyart of Moneta, and Shirley Beach of Harrisonburg; a number of nephews including Steven Montgomery of Covington, Harry Beach and Lanny Beach, Jr., both of Harrisonburg, and special friends, Mike and Darlene Daugherty, Jim and Sue Porterfield, Grover and Sudie Persinger, Calvin Fridley, Gene Lee, Floyd Flanagan and his dog, Max. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date at his residence. Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
