Martha Jane Hyler Rutter, 59, of 561 Roxbury St., Clifton Forge, died Sunday, April 30, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Rutter was born July 27, 1963 in Alleghany County. She was the daughter of the late Len F. Hyler and Judith Teaford Hyler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard T. Rutter, and a sister, Judith “Penny” Hyler.

Martha worked for over 30 years at the Woodland Health & Rehabilitation Center as the activities director. When not at work, she loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are two sons, Raymond Workman and his wife, Kaylia of Clifton Forge and James Workman and his wife, Angel of Covington; five grandchildren, Xavier Workman, Kayden Workman, Kendal Workman, Xavier Reid and Draven Lucas; two sisters, Frances Dodd of Clifton Forge and Kathy Loan and her husband, Tommy of Selma; two brothers, Gerald Hyler and his wife, Theresa and Dwayne Hyler and his wife, Bonnie, all of Clifton Forge also surviving are nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Mountain View Cemetery.

The family will receive their friends from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM on Thursday at Arritt Funeral Home.
