Barry Estel Rose, 66, of Clifton Forge, died Friday March 30, 2018 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. He was born May 6, 1951 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Boyd E. Rose and Lois Wells Simmons. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Betty Collins Persinger; a sister-in-law, Melissa Persinger; his beloved dogs, Wahoo and Hershey and his cat, Radar. He was a Life Member and Past Captain of the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad; he was a retired member of Sharon Fire and Rescue; Honorary member of Covington Rescue Squad; past member of the Covington Fire Department; served on the Advisory Board for Administration of Justice Program at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College; member and past president of the president of the Virginia Crime Prevention Association. While at the Sheriff's Office he started out as a dispatcher, became a Deputy and worked his way through the ranks to become a Lieutenant, the office he held when he retired after 30 years of service. He was involved in Crime Prevention, DARE, and assisted in organizing and starting the Bike Rodeo. Barry earned a life membership of the VAVRS; he was awarded the Virginia DARE Officer of the year in 2002 and the James L. Biggs Memorial Award in 2005. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Persinger Rose of Clifton Forge; daughter Stacie Booze and her husband Matt of Selma; Jonathan Rose and his wife Ryann of Winston-Salem, NC and Heather Brooks of Frederiksberg; grandchildren, Carson, Paisley, Tinley and Everly; his father - in-law, Frank Persinger, Sr. of Clifton Forge; brother-in-law, Frank Persinger, Jr. and his wife Mary of Clifton Forge; sister-in-law, Debbie Gamer and her husband Carl of Roanoke Rapids, NC and several aunts, uncles and cousins. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. The service will be held Saturday April 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating. The interment will follow in Persinger Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive their friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday April 6, 2018 at the Arritt Funeral Home.
