Frank Eugene Persinger, Sr., 90, of Clifton Forge, died Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor.


He was born April 11, 1935, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Jasper Persinger, Sr., and Louvenia Fairburn Persinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Persinger; two daughters, Melissa Persinger and Joyce Persinger Rose; one brother, Melvin Persinger; and a son-in-law, Barry Rose.


Frank retired from Kroger in Clifton Forge after serving as store manager for 29 years. A lifelong community servant, he served his country in the National Guard and was a devoted member of Mallow Presbyterian Church, where he served faithfully as an elder. He was a former member of the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors, the Alleghany County Electoral Board, and numerous other local boards. He was also a longtime member of the Alleghany Highlands Kiwanis Club, serving as secretary for many years, and remained active in Hunters for the Hungry. As a Mason and Shriner, he was deeply involved in fraternal and charitable work. Frank was known for his hands-on generosity, most memorably cooking hot dogs each year for the Alleghany Highlands Bike Rodeo.


Left to cherish his memory are his children, Frank Eugene Persinger, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Clifton Forge and Debrah Garner and her husband, Carl, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; six grandchildren, Matthew Garner and wife, Fran of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Ginny Smith of Roanoke Rapids, Heather Brooks of Clifton Forge, Ashley Walton and her husband, Chuckie of Covington, Elise Chittum and her husband, Zach of Covington, and Kendal Persinger and his wife, Kelsey of Ludowici, GA; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jasper Persinger and his wife, Alice and George Persinger and his wife, Shirley, all of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews.


A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mallow Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating. The family will receive their friends from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.


Masonic rites will be conducted by Clifton Forge Masonic Lodge # 166 A.F. & A.M.


A private interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.
