LEONARD SWITZER Leonard Odell " Pickel" Switzer, 88, of 3034 Pitzer Ridge Road, died, early this morning, Monday, July 14, 2008 at his residence. He was born February 15, 1920 in Craig County, a son of the late J.W. and Richter Smith Switzer. Mr. Switzer severed during World War II with the United States Navy during the Pacific Theater. He retired in 1984 after 49 years of employment with the former Rayon / Hercules, Inc. He was a member of the Parrish Court United Methodist Church. Mr. Switzer served on the Covington City School Board for 13 years and served on the Advisory Council for the Jackson River Technical Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Hatfield Switzer in 1997 and also by two brothers and one sister. Surviving are his two sons, Paul Switzer of Covington and Mark and Debbie Switzer of Sandstone; two daughters, Judy Friel of Forest and Carolyn and Mike Stevens of Burk; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Benjamin Switzer of Clifton Forge and Calvin Switzer of Salem and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating The interment will be private at Alleghany Memorial Park The family will receive their friends 7:00 until 8:30 PM this evening at Arritt Funeral Home. Memorial Information The family suggests that memorial donations in Mr. Switzer's name by be made to the Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, Va 24422.
