Sherman Nathaniel Holloway, Sr. departed this life for his eternal home on Thursday, May 7, at Lewis-Gale Alleghany Hospital. He was born in Covington, VA, the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Holloway and was a resident of Covington for most of his life. He was a graduate of the former Watson High School and attended Maryland Eastern Shore. He served in the U. S. Army with a tour in Vietnam.
Sherman was a retired employee of Virginia (now Dominion) Power and also worked as the Thursday Night Supervisor for Covington High School. He loved all sports and was a loyal Pittsburg Steeler fan. His passion was for softball and he will be inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in February 2016. Sherman was a member of the VFW Post 1033, where he served as post commander. He loved working with all of his fellow comrades providing services for veterans and their families.

Wilbur Layne Tucker, 72, of 86 Lindsay Lane, Hot Springs, died, Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. He was born February 21, 1943 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Joseph K. and Matilda Ann Tingler Tucker. In addition to his parents Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Dean Tucker, Ryland Odell Tucker and Joseph Knight "Bo" Tucker and two sisters, Carol Ann Tucker and Leola Jane Mason. Mr. Tucker retired from Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) after 35 years of service. Ira Dobson Jr., 90, of 209 E. Locust St., died, Tuesday May 5, 2015 at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Low Moor.
He was born January 31, 1925, in Covington to the late Ira E. Dobson Sr. and Medister Johnson Dobson.
Mr. Dobson was a graduate of the former Watson High School in Covington. He was joined in holy matrimony with the late Mary B. Bowyer Dobson on November 20, 1948. Mr. Dobson retired in 1987 from MeadWestavco after 43 years with the company. He was a charter member of the Concerned Christians Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member and deacon. He was a veteran of World War II with the United Sates Army.

Bonnie Walton Tucker, 71, of 7414 Tucker Road died Sunday, May 3, 2015. Mrs. Tucker was born May 1, 1944, in Greenbrier County, WV, a daughter of the late Charles Lacy Walton, Sr. and Jessie Shue Walton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Sam Tucker in 2011, and also by two sisters and two brothers. Leonard Haden Persinger, 81, of 6800 Bens Run Rd., died, Friday May 1, 2015. He was born April 17, 1934 in Alleghany County the son of the late William Henry Persinger and Mamie Tucker Persinger. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Clara Myers and one brother Lonnie Persinger. Mr. Persinger retired in 1992 after 35 years as a laborer foreman with the Bodell Construction Company.
