Marie Verner
Christine Marie Verner Gaines, 90, of 301 E. Fudge Street, died, Wednesday October 8, 2014 at her daughter's residence. She was born January 27, 1924 in Knezice, Czech Republic. a daughter of the late Frantisek and Bozena Bednar Verner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ferald B. Gaines in 2001; her son, David Gaines in 1981 and also by one brother and one sister. Mrs. Gaines was a Holocaust survivor and came to the United States with her first husband in 1948. She had a real love for all children. Surviving are her husband, Elroy Basham of Covington; her daughter, Donna Runyon and her husband Walter "Lyn" of Covington; two step daughters, Bonnie Keyser and her husband Michael and Kay Munsey, all of Covington; step Grandchildren, James and Christy Hodges and Addie and Shawn Holesapple; Carolyn Runyon; David Runyon and Cory Runyon; children that where raised in the Gaines home, Ellen Jaicks; Kirsten Jaicks;, Ronnie Jaicks;, Russell Jaicks; Joey...

Richard Pauley, 63, of Moundsville, WV, died, Sunday September 28, 2014 at his home. He was born July 13, 1951 in Lincoln County, WV, a son of the late Walter and Emily McClure Pauley. Richard was a retired coal miner from CONSOL Coal Co. and a member of the UMWA. Trudy Rosemary Redman Lee, 69, of 508 Summit Drive, passed away, Friday, September 26, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born April 29, 1945 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late John H. and Anna Mae Simmons Redman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Trudy was a member of the Mill Branch Church of God. She was former Sunday School Teacher and Choir member of the church. She enjoyed being a member of the Potts Valley Singers. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Nathan "Billy" Lee of Covington; her daughter, Deena C. Richard K. Robinson, 82, of League City, Texas, passed away, Wednesday, September 24, 2014. He was born September 7, 1932 in Covington, a son of Franklin and Thelma Robinson. Surviving are his wife, of 46 years Dorothea; a son, James W. Robinson; two daughters, Thea M. Lockett and her husband Wayne and Danielle M. Robinson; one brother, David M. Robinson and his wife Carol and many other loving family and friends. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home. He was employed by Total Plant Maintenance at the MeadWestvaco Extruder Plant in Low Moor. Gladstone Rhea "Glad" Thompson, 92, of 7618 Dunlap Creek Rd., died Saturday September 20, 2014 in the Springs Nursing Home in Hot Springs. He was born June 28, 1922 in Alleghany County the son of the late Elmer and Ida Mae Troxell Thompson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Roberts Thompson in 2008, and also by three brothers, Robert Thompson, Eldon Thompson, and Elmer Thompson Jr. Mr. Thompson had retired as a carpenter from OV Roberts Contracting Co. in 1987. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He also enjoyed gardening, was a handy man and a self-made man who built his own house, and was a lover of nature and animals. He was born July 28, 1937 the son of the late Raymond E. and Mildred Linkswiller Walton. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one sister Carol Whitmore and one brother Harold Walton. Mr. Walton retired from Mead Westvaco as a team leader on the #2 paper machine after 43 years of service. Eddie was born November 30, 1929, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Aaron S. and Lula Rose Austin.
