Mrs. Hazel Virginia Andrews Burr serenely concluded her extraordinary & rewarding earthly journey on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 in North Richland Hills, Texas. As she had wished, she was surrounded by peace and her loved ones. She exited this world as she had lived-with grace and dignity. From her first day to her last, she was always a kind, compassionate and Christian lady with lots of charisma. She was heroically unselfish, had a zest for life and a quick wit. There was a purpose in everything she did. Hazel was born at Hemitite, Virginia on September 22, 1919, the 4th of 6 children of Nova Virginia Sawyers and Ernest W. Andrews. She would fondly reminiscence of the safe quiet community of Covington where she grew up and raised her children. She was given the gift of time and was with us for 102 glorious years, accumulating a lifetime of remarkable events. Hazel was blessed to have met and eventually marry Ethridge E. Burr on 12/30/1940. Debbie Lee Baldwin, 65, of 1696 Jackson River Turnpike, died, Sunday November 28, 2021, in Reston Hospital Center in Reston. Mrs. Baldwin was born January 28, 1956, in Bath County, a daughter of Nina Frances (Granny B) Smith Baldwin and the late Peter J. Baldwin Jr. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son Lee Hiner, and a sister Jewell Brummitte. She was a cook/manager at the Homestead Hotel. She was a member of Lifeline Ministry. In accordance with her wishes her body has been cremated. Edgar McDonald Liptrap, 85, of 805 N. Beverly Ave., died, Wednesday November 24, 2021, at his home. Mr. Liptrap was born July 27, 1936, in Waynesboro, a son of the late Charles Clifton and Carrie Virginia Jack Liptrap. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law Gladys Ryder and Willie, two brothers George (Cliff) Liptrap and wife Bobbie, and Charles (Big Charlie) Liptrap. He was an iron worker and was big in the union a tree surgeon as well and attended Lone Star Advent in Nicelytown. He helped replot the cemetery at Green Valley Church, an avid outdoorsman master angler and musician who loved county and bluegrass. He was a people person all we welcome, had show dogs, and loved his family. In accordance with his wishes his body has been cremated. Carolyn Clark Rice, 76, of 524 W. Jackson St, died, Tuesday November 23, 2021, at her residence. She was born May 1, 1945, in Covington, the daughter of late Betty Clark Sparks and Timothy Joseph Sparks, other than her parents she preceded in death by a sister Wanda Ann Sparks. Carolyn had worked at WAVVA convenience store in Chester, VA. Carolyn Price Robinson, 77, formerly of Covington, of Summersville, SC., died, Tuesday November 23, 2021. Mrs. Robinson was born August 18, 1944, in Covington a daughter of Lacy E. Price and Violet Mays Price Ford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Charles Price. She was a Co-Owner of American Document Services. Surviving are her husband of 57 years David Marion Robinson of Summersville, SC.; a niece Debbie Booze and husband Henry of Fincastle; two brothers Ralph Price and wife Betty of Covington and David Price of Jacksonville, FL., also surviving are nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Sunday November 28. 2021 at 2:00 PM in Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Hartsfield officiating. Mrs. Miller was born December 22, 1928, in Bolar a daughter of the late William Arnold and Rue Ava Jackson Burns. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George Lewis Miller in 2005; two sisters Mona McElwee and Wilma Lipscomb; one brother Billy Burns; and a son in law Larry Magaddino. Marvin Lewis Hooker, Sr., 86, of 531 Bird Farm Rd., died, Tuesday November 16, 2021, at the Brian Center in Low Moor. Mr. Hooker was born March 15, 1935, in Hot Springs, a son of the late Herbert Lee and Rosa Landrum Hooker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Celia Kimberlin Hooker in 2008 and three brothers. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a carpet installer for Alleghany Tile and Carpet and for Don's Floor Service. Charles Edwards Moorman, 56, of Covington, died, Monday November 15, 2021, at Bon Secours St. Mary Hospital in Richmond. Mr. Moorman was born November 29, 1964, in Washington D.C. a son of the late Calvin and Katherine Dement Moorman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Abby Moody; three sisters Audrey Moorman, Elizabeth Willett, and Kathern Staehly; and a brother. He was a truck driver for Alleghany County and director of security for easy riders' events. James Robert Simpson, 94, of Covington, died Saturday, November 13, 2021, at his residence. Mr. Simpson was born May 17, 1927, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Grover Simpson, Sr. and Irene Sartain Simpson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Grover Simpson, Jr. and his wife Barbara; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine Clements and husband Roy. James retired from the former Hercules, Inc. in Covington and worked for CFW Phone Co. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European theater. He was a charter member of Calvary Christian Church Disciples of Christ, were he served as Elder, Chairman of the board, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader. He was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as scout leader for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
