Paula Nester Anglin, 72, of 1115 Cherokee Trail, died, Friday October 22, 2021, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Mrs. Anglin was born February 4, 1949, in Glace, WV a daughter of the late Paul and Velva Dalton Nester. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Glenn Anglin in 2017 and 1 brother Dale Nester. She was a former employee of the Treasurer's office for the City of Covington. Clabe "Pops" Hicks, 51, of 515 E. Kline St, died, Saturday October 16, 2021, at his residence. Pops was born March 8, 1970, in Elkton, MD, he was a son of the late William T. and Mary Mullins Hicks. In addition to his parents, he preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Surviving are his wife Arnetta Irene Hicks of Covington; one daughter Linda Williams and her husband James of Covington; two sons Larry Hicks and Brittany Honeycutt of Covington, Clabe G. Hicks and his wife Monica of Covington; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters Stella Beard of Delaware and Margaret Jones of West Virginia; three brothers Earl Hicks of Vinton, R.C. Hicks and wife Alice of Roanoke, and Stevie Hicks of Chicago, Il, and a number of nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wish his body has been cremated. A service will be held at a later date. Ruby Ardelia Lewis, 71, of 315 N. Alleghany Ave., died, Friday October 15, 2021, in Lewis Gale Montgomery. Mrs. Lewis was born on October 28, 1949, in Covington a daughter of the late Leroy and Matlene Murphy Hunter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Ardelia "Saun" Hunter, a son Carmen Lewis, a granddaughter Tanyell Hunter, two brothers James Hunter and William Hunter. She worked as a Personal Care Assistant for AmeriCare Plus in Clifton Forge, was a member of Wrightsville Baptist Church. She enjoyed talking to her sister Glendora Johnson on the phone everyday and loved her family and traveling with her family. He was born January 27, 1970, in Alleghany County, a son of Mary Brooks Barber of Covington and the late Malcolm Estil Weade. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marcella Weade in 2014, and a brother Micheal Weade in 2017. Sonny was employed by B&D Trucking in Selma. Butch Crizer Raymond "Butch" Crizer, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 7, 2021. He passed away peacefully at home with his devoted wife of 59 years, Wanda, by his side. Mr. Crizer was born April 14, 1943, in Alleghany County a son of the late Raymond Lee and Juanita Hoff Crizer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Thelka Malashevich, a half-sister, Peggy Paxton, two half-brothers Ernie and Dudley Grimes. He attended Christ United Methodist Church. Butch retired from Westvaco after 43 years of service and went on to live a very happy, fulfilling life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, cooking, and traveling making wonderful memories for all who were blessed to know him. Ricky Lee Hartman, 63, of Callaghan died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Rick was born March 13, 1958 and was adopted as an infant by his parents, the late Bill and Daisy Hartman. He grew up and spent his entire life in the Callaghan area where he attended Callaghan schools taking part in mischief as much as possible. After graduating from high school, Rick enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country as a Sergeant with Company B 23rd Battalion 503 Division Infantry of the 101st Airborne for a tour of duty stationed at Camp Casey, Korea. After returning to the states following his military service, Rick found employment with Alleghany County Schools' maintenance department where he spent the last 40 years serving the students and faculty as the head custodian at Callaghan Elementary School making many memories with no less than three generations of Callaghan kids. Sidney Lee Spellman, 95, of 1801 Midland Trail, died, Wednesday October 6, 2021, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Spellman was born June 25, 1926, in Alleghany County a son of the late Joseph Edward and Sudie McCullough Spellman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Padgett Spellman, a daughter and son in law Carol Ann and Melvin Fleshman, three sisters Mildred, Lucille, and Shirley, and four brothers Carl, Glenn, Dennis, and Jack. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He had retired from Westrock from the waste treatment plant. He was a mechanic in the army and continued to enjoy it after his service as well as being a wonderful electrician, carpenter, and a jack of all trades. Sandra Ardelia "Saun" Hunter, 53 of 345 E. Prospect St. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, in Lewis - Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor. She was born July 8, 1968, in Covington she was the daughter of Ruby Hunter Lewis of Covington. She was preceded in death by a daughter Tanyell P. Hunter and grandson Ki'ari Wright. Saun loved to travel and being with her loved ones. Surviving other than her mother, is her fianc Albert Mallory of 17 years, a son Gavin Hunter and his wife Kayla,two brothers Mark Hunter( Monte Crawford), Phillip Lewis and two sisters Elisa Rogers and her husband Van and Audra Hill.
