Joyce Reynolds Armentrout, 83, of Covington died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at her daughter's residence in Buchanan. Mrs. Armentrout was born January 7, 1938, in Covington, the daughter of the late Walter G. Reynolds,Sr. and Emma Anne Looney Reynolds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Leon Wayne Armentrout, in 2004, a daughter, Shellie Armentrout and one sister and four brothers. Joyce had retired from Halmode Inc. Surviving are one Daughter, Terri West and her Husband, Lester, of Buchanan; three Sons, Butch Wood and his wife, Ellen, of Covington, Kevin Wood and his wife, Terry, of Az, and Troy Wood of NC. nine grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be Friday at Lone Star Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Gillette officiating. The family will receive their friends on Friday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Arritt Funeral Home. Arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.

Delberta Ruckman Foster, 84, of 120 Spring Mountain Rd., Hot Springs, died, Friday July 16, 2021, at the Brian Center Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Low Moor. Mrs. Foster was born August 15, 1936, in Covington, the daughter of the late William and Lillian Sharp Ruckman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William P. Foster in 2000. She was a retired Registered Nurse and a graduate of the C&O Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. In keeping with her wishes her body has been cremated. Surviving are her very dear and close friends, Joyce Davis and husband Larry, of Bacova and their children and grandchildren; Leta McLaughlin, Doris and Vernon McLaughlin and Carlene Gibson all of Covington; Bobby Hiner and Darrell Hiner of Minnehaha Springs, WV. Moselle Davis, of Scott Hill in Clifton Forge, died Tuesday, July 13, 2021, in the Brian Center Nursing Home at Low Moor. She was born September 13, 1923, in Roanoke but grew up in Covington and graduated from Covington High School. She had worked at several places in Covington, the last being at the former K-Mart store. She was the daughter of the late Henry ad Ethel Davis. She was the only child. She is survived by several cousins in Roanoke and Franklin County. One cousin, Billy Altice, did most of the visiting and calling to check on her. She had two very, very special friends, Carol Conner, that she worked with and Nancy Salyers, a church member, both true and loyal friends for a very long time. The funeral service will be held at the graveside Friday, July 16, 2021, at 2:00 PM in Alleghany Memorial Park with Billy Altice officiating. Deborah Worley Deacon, 60, formerly of Covington, died Monday, July 12, 2021, in Roanoke. Mrs. Deacon was born May 10, 1961, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Leslie Phillip and Helen Pullin Worley. She was a devoted Christian who found great strength through her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a customer service representative for nTelos and loved God. In keeping with her wishes her body has been cremated. Rockie Lane Stuple, 58, of 306 Broken Arrow Lane, died, Saturday July 10, 2021. Mr. Stuple was born February 1, 1963, in Alleghany County a son of the late Carl and Emma Beatrice Newcomb Stuple. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Alice Ditson. He worked as a lineman with many different companies and was a member of the IBEW Local Union 70 in Forestville, MD. Michael Ray "Mike" Ferrell Sr, 67, of Covington passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the Springs Nursing Home in Hot Springs after a long illness.
Mr. Ferrell was born December 30, 1953, in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Henry and Anna Shirkey Ferrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents (Mr. and Mrs. Underwood) who raised him, his brother (John Ferrell survived by wife Susan), and sister Phyllis Greenfield.
He retired in 2016 from the loading department at WestRock. He was a Washington Football Team fan, a muscle car fanatic, an avid outdoorsman, and loved his dogs (Domino, Copper, LD, and Daisy.)
Mike is survived by his wife, Velda Graley; seven children: Michael Ferrell Jr (Alicia), Thomas Ferrell (Jenny), Christopher Ferrell (Jackie), Justin Ferrell, Amanda Cashatt (Ty) of Staunton, Heath Graley (Sarah) of Hurricane, WV, Elizabeth Miller (Josh, who was like a son). Jill Copeland Moersh, 89, of Covington, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2021. She was born December 10, 1931 in New York City, the daughter of the late Arthur Benjamin Copeland and Helen Friedlander Copeland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James "Jim" Farner Moersh and a son-in-law Bobby A. Dean. At a very young age, Jill moved to Cedarhurst, Long Island, NY, where she was a longtime resident. She graduated from Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, NY in 1949 and earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Teaching from Oswego College, Oswego NY in 1952. She met her husband Jim while he was working as Activities Secretary at the Five Towns YMCA in Lawrence, NY. They were married in 1954 and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary prior to Jim's passing in January of 2011. Jill was a long time teacher who touched the lives of the many students she taught. Dana Randolph Humphreys 82, of Big Ridge, Covington, Virginia died Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Carillion Roanoke Memorial. He was born May 31, 1939 in Alleghany County Virginia the son of the late Henry Madison and Estelle Smith Humphreys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Roy Daryl Humphreys. Dana drove a bus his senior year at Dunlap High School where he graduated in 1958, started cutting pulpwood as a teenager and retired from Westvaco after 36 years of service and during those years worked as a Foreman on 5, 6 and 7 paper machines. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He also served as a Trustee and Treasurer at Antioch Christian Church on Big Ridge Mountain. Dana was always busy planting garden, visiting with people as he sold corn and beans from the tailgate of his truck, and was a NASCAR and Green Bay Packers fan. Mrs. Martin was born October 30, 1953, in Covington, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Alma Frances Usery Fridley. She retired in 2019 after 33 years of service with the Covington Police Department as a dispatcher. She was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
