William David Carter, 61, of 1239 W. Jackson St., died, Monday, February 15, 2021, at 300 East Gray St. Mr. Carter was born December 28, 1959, in Covington, a son of Helen Vass Carter of Covington and the late Bill Mack Carter. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Steve Smith and two nephews, Brian Smith and Michael Smith. He was the manager of the meat department at the Kroger in Daleville. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church. David was a Royal Arch Mason and a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge, No. 171 AF&AM, Past Patron of the Electa Chapter 33, Order of the Eastern Star of Roanoke. He loved to play golf, hunt, and spending time with his dogs. Delores Hinton McAllister, 79, of 7306 Dunlap Creek Road died Friday, February 12, 2021, at Carrington Place in Daleville. Mrs. McAllister was born December 15, 1941, in Alleghany County a daughter of the late William Lawrence Hinton and Dorothy Turner Hinton Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Lewis R. McAllister in January of this year, her stepfather, Oliver Martin, two sisters, Irma Rogers and Iris Houchens, and two brothers, Bill Hinton and Rodney Hinton. She was a longtime member of Moss Run Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and their sports and scouting activities. Raymond Wayne Boone, Sr. 76, of N. Chesterfield, VA passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Frances Bostic Boone; brother, Kyle Boone, Jr.; sisters, Mary Boone and Bonnie Boone; and his daughter, Rebecca Boone. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy Boone; son, Raymond Boone II; brother, David Boone; and sister, Phyllis Custer; as well as numerous extended family and friends. He had retired in 1983 from VDOT. He attended Lone Star Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing for all of his life.

Kathryn Sue "Susie" Arritt ,70, of Catawba, died, Sunday February 7, 2021 at her residence. Mrs. Arritt was born October 13, 1950 in Alleghany Co. a daughter of the late Roy "Buck" Arritt and Marie Fox Whitehead. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son Jason Ross and a brother Michael Arritt. Susie retired from the US Postal Service as a Postmaster with thirty-four years of service also she was a member of the Postmaster league. Surviving is her husband Jesse Cornelius of Catawba, a son Michael Ross, a granddaughter Tyler Ross and Brandon Morris of Catawba who she treated like a grandson, one bother Jeff Arritt of Richmond, one sister Reva Campbell of Vinton and an Aunt Mary Jane Spencer and her husband Mike of Covington. Lawrence James Gilbert passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 5, 2021, at the age of 67. Born July 15, 1953, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late James Lawrence and Dorothy Triner Gilbert. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by Hannah Laramae, a baby born directly into heaven through miscarriage; and, by his son, Nathanael Lawrence. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Iris May Gilbert, whom he married on June 28, 1975, in Washington, PA. He was a 1971 graduate of Chartiers Valley High School in Carnegie, PA. He earned his Associates Degree in Biology from Community College of Alleghany County, Pittsburgh, PA; his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Earth Sciences from California University of Pennsylvania; and, his Teaching Certificate from Radford University, VA. Paul Lee Crizer Jr., 61, of 1322 S. David Ave., died, Wednesday February 3, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Crizer was born December 29, 1959 in Covington the son of the late Paul Lee Sr. and Marie Hepler Crizer.
He worked at the Greenbrier Hotel as a housekeeper for a number of years. He loved to watch all the University of Virginia sports as well as play golf, read and spending time with his friends.
In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated. Surviving are his wife of 20 years Dawn Martin Crizer of Covington, a step son Robert Cale and wife Liz of Oldsmar, FL., a step grandson Max Cale of Oldsmar, FL, Frank Hepler whom he thought of as his brother, and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. James Lawrence Thompson, Jr., 71, of Dunbrack Road, died February 1, 2021 at Lewis-Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. James was born on March 1, 1949 in Alleghany County, a son of the late James Thompson, Sr. and Geraldine Carter Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Thompson, Sr. He was employed by Covington City Schools for 43 years, retiring in 2010 as the head custodian for the Jeter-Watson and Edgemont school facilities. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and trips to South Carolina with his family. When not outdoors, he could usually be found enjoying one of the classic western movies he loved so much.
