Mont Ray Anderson, 78, of 815 W. Jackson St., died, Saturday January 23, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Anderson was born May 20, 1937 at Oriskany in Craig County the son of the late Max William Anderson and Ruth Bowers Anderson. He was also preceded in death by two brother Charles "Corky" Anderson and Boyd " Bo" Anderson and one sister Arlene "Sis" Anderson. Ray retired from MeadWestvaco in 2000 after 40 years of service as an electrician. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church, where he served as trustee of the church, and served 25 years in the National Guard of Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Jewell Kemper Anderson, one daughter Robin Craig of Salem, one granddaughter Raven Craig of Salem, two brothers Lenwood "Sardy" Anderson and wife Judy and Ralph Lewis "Pie" Anderson both of Covington and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Grace Brethren Church with the Rev. Dalma Jerold "D.J." Bailey, 80, of 109 Cliffview Drive, passed away at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor on Friday, January 22, 2016. He was born February 18, 1935 at Waiteville, West Virginia, a son of the late Rhoda Bailey and Cordie Smith Bell Bailey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Pamela; two step brothers, Corbitt Bell and Ira Bell; four half brothers , Averill "Buster" Bell, Roy Bell, Berlin Bell and Alvie Bell; four half sisters, Emma Hawse, Beulah Martin, Irma Broughman and Jean Miller. Mr. Bailey served with the United States Army stationed in Texas and Germany. He had retired as a mechanic from the former Hercules, Inc. after 31 years with the company. He attended Covington Bible Church. Shirley Nell Chapman Sanders, 81, of Parklin Terrace Apartments,, died January 17, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Sanders was born February 16, 1934, in Alleghany County the daughter of the late Mansfield Chapman and Nannie Tingler Chapman Blankenship. She was also preceded in death by her husband William Edward Sanders in 2009, three brothers Charles Chapman, Henry Chapman, and Warren Chapman; one infant sister, Carrie Lee Chapman; and one sister-in-law, Ruby Chapman. Shirley Enjoyed the many years she traveled around the world raising her family in the military. She loved crafting, vacationing at the beach, and most of all being with her family. Mrs. Back was born August 19, 1938, in Cleveland, Virginia, a daughter of the late Davis Stafford Skeens and Cora Breeding Skeens. Josephine Agnes Rock "Jo" Jones, 93, of 218 E. Main Street died Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Low Moor. Mrs. Jones was born February 17, 1922, at Oriskany in Craig County a daughter of the late Effie Rock. She had retired from the former Halmode Sewing Plant in Covington. She was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church where she had been a member of the Choir and the Ladies Circle and was the treasurer of her Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Hammett P. Jones in 1966 and also by a grandson, Peter Campbell and 12 sisters and brothers. Michael Allen Harris, 44, of 3707 Potts Creek Road died Tuesday, January 12, 2016, in Lewis Gale Hospital at Salem. Mr. Harris was born May 10, 1971, in Alleghany County a son of Al Harris of Covington and the late Shirley Martin Harris. In addition to his Father, he is survived by Donnie Cash of Covington and two Sisters, Stacy Smith and Shelly Simmons, both of Covington. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 15, 2016, at 1:00 PM in Lone Star Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Hartsfield officiating. Geraldine Paxton Reed, 93, of 821 Lou Ave., Clifton Forge, formerly of McDonald Street in Covington, died Monday evening, January11, 2016 at her home. She was born September 4, 1922, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Henry Burse and Rhoda Kemper Paxton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Henry Lewis Reed, in 1996; her Son, Howard W. Reed and two Brothers, Howard Paxton and Kenneth Paxton. Mrs. Reed had retired as a Librarian after many years with the Charles Pinckney Jones Memorial Library. She was a longtime member of Highland Chapel Christian Church and had attended First Christian Church in recent years. She was a member of the Curtis A. Loretta Green, age 77, entered this earthly life on July 20, 1938 and departed to be with her heavenly father on January 11, 2016. She was preceded in death by husband, John L. Green; parents, Eugene and Lucy George; sisters, Erma Hinkle and Darlene George and one great-grandchild, Eden Johnston. Surviving are her Husband, Stephen Beverly of Nottoway; her daughter, Alisha Williams of Covington; her son, Richard "Bo Bo" Riley of Covington; three grandsons, one Sister, Nellie Baker of Eagle Rock; two half sisters, Sally Broughman of Low Moor and Billie Jo Loan of Millboro; one half brother, Alvin Bailey, of Millboro and the father of her children, Richard Riley, of Covington and several nieces and nephews.
