Glenden Lewis "Glen" Comer, 82, of Covington, died, Friday, May 28, 2021, at his home. Mr. Comer was born November 27, 1938, at Wikel, WV, a son of the late Welch and Grace Cooke Comer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Arlene Goodin Comer, in 2013, and his brother, Bennie Comer. He retired from the United States Army. He retired in 2001 from MeadWestvaco as a welder after 36 years with the company. He was a member of Covington Moose Lodge #610, Callaghan Ruritan Club and a former member of the Dunlap Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He was an avid fan of classic cars. Surviving are two Daughters and Sons-in-law, Janet and Mark Porter of Moneta and Jane and Noel Antonio of Springfield; grandsons Arren Porter and his wife, Hannah of Moneta and Thomas Antonio of Springfield, a sister in law Betty Comer, and several nieces and nephews. John Wayne Smith, 70, of 2721 Vassar St., Low Moor, died, Sunday May 23, 2021 at his residence. Mr. Smith was born July 4, 1950 in Alleghany County a son of the late Floyd E. Smith Sr. and Gladys Brown Collins. He was a self-employed truck driver. He was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1033. He served two tours in Vietnam in the United States Army receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a Blue Blood American as well as an avid car lover and loved his 2017 yellow Dodge Challenger R/T. In keeping with his wishes, he body has been cremated. Surviving are his companion Shelia Smith of Covington, a step daughter Tammy Pascarella and husband Terry of Covington, GA, a sister Linda Lampkin of Martinsville, friends Billy Fury and wife Elizabeth of Low Moor, three nieces and nephews, three step grandchildren Cody Thompson of Covington, Summer Jennings, and Tatum Jennings of Ash, NC. Antony Edward Jalink Sr., 56, of 428 Brentwood Dr, died, Tuesday May 18, 2021 at his residence. He was born May 3, 1965 in Newport News a son of Rosie Pugh Evans and the late Antony Jalink. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Rosemary Jalink in 2015. He was an Electrical Engineer with BSU Inc. in Ithaca, NY. He was a member of Kars Unlimited and the Corvette Club, enjoyed watching is favorite driver Jimmy Johnson in NASCAR as well as working with computers and going fishing. In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated. Carl Anthony Rowan, 64, of 2574 Prices Bluff Rd., Eagle Rock, died, Saturday May 15, 2021 at his residence. Mr. Rowan was born December 29, 1956 in Clifton Forge. Carl worked at the former Mizzy Plant in Cliftondale Park. He loved his children, his grandson "Goomer" and his cats. In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated. Vittorio Giuseppe "Victor" Cucci 68, Of 2319 Dressler Drive died Thursday night, May 13, 2021, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. Victor was born July 9, 1952, in Carini, Sicily, a son of the late Giuseppe and Angelina Taormina Cucci. Before coming to the United States, Victor served two years in the Italian Army. He came to Covington with his wife in 1977 and opened Cucci's Pizzeria restaurant. He enjoyed spending time with his family and having them involved in the restaurant. He was proud to be a member of this community. Mr. Jennings was born June 10, 1949, in Alleghany County, the son of the late Meredith Jennings, Sr. and Betty Arrington Jennings Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Dawn W. Rickett and a brother, Meredith "Bugs" Jennings, Jr. Gary served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Gerald McLarn Pullin, 79, of 212 Mountain Lake Dr., died on his birthday, Thursday, April 22nd, 2021 at his residence. He was born April 22, 1942 in Bath County, the son of the late Roy Pullin and Geraldine Pullin Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his two sons, Gerald M. Pullin Jr. and Robert T. Pullin; one sister, Carol Pullin Kern; a special uncle, Arnold Pullin; and his stepfather, Conway Carpenter. Mr. Pullin was a retired machinist at Westvaco and formerly at Hercules, Inc., in Research Triangle Park, NC. He also was a member of the Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Department. Having served as Captain of the rescue squad and Vice President of the Local 675, Covington Papermakers Union. He was an avid hunter as well as a hunter safety instructor.
