Gerald McLarn Pullin, 79, of 212 Mountain Lake Dr., died on his birthday, Thursday, April 22nd, 2021 at his residence. He was born April 22, 1942 in Bath County, the son of the late Roy Pullin and Geraldine Pullin Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his two sons, Gerald M. Pullin Jr. and Robert T. Pullin; one sister, Carol Pullin Kern; a special uncle, Arnold Pullin; and his stepfather, Conway Carpenter. Mr. Pullin was a retired machinist at Westvaco and formerly at Hercules, Inc., in Research Triangle Park, NC. He also was a member of the Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Department. Having served as Captain of the rescue squad and Vice President of the Local 675, Covington Papermakers Union. He was an avid hunter as well as a hunter safety instructor. Gerald considered himself a Christian and was very strong in his beliefs. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Justin "Bo" Eugene Shinault, 51, of 510 N. Greenbrier Ave., died, Monday April 5, 2021 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1969 in Covington, the son of Gloria Jean Chittum Shinault of Covington and the late Donald F. Shinault, Sr. Mr. Shinault worked at WestRock in the # 1&2 loading department, he was avid outdoorsman, loved playing baseball and softball and loved his beloved Tarheels. Justin enjoyed spending time with his children and taking care of his mother. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter Kassity Howard and her husband Andrew of North Carolina, one son Jason Shinault of Roanoke, two brothers Donald F. Shinault, Jr and his wife Lisa of Covington and Dale Shinault and his wife Angela of North Carolina, one sister Patricia Hunter of Covington, a number of nieces and nephews to including a special niece Unique Jordan and his beloved dog Cooper. Noah Ricardo Green, 25, of Covington died Friday, April 2, 2021. Mr. Green was born February 8, 1996, in Fairlea, WV, a Son of Newton and Mazie Haynes Green of Covington. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Mabel Haynes and Noel and Iris Green. He was a 2014 graduate of Alleghany High School and received a BA Degree from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Brendan Green of Arlington and Isaiah Green of Los Angeles, CA; seven sisters, Susanna Haynes of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Kim Green of Newport News, Cierra Anderson and her husband, Warren, of Stuarts Draft, Brittani Green of Chesapeake, China Green of Charlottesville, Sahara Green and India Green, both of Covington and three nieces, Essence Green, Alexia Anderson and Alivia Anderson. Russell Leslie Bess, 57, of Roanoke, formerly of Covington, died, Thursday, April 1, 2021, at his home. Mr. Bess was born September 14, 1963, in Alleghany County a son of the late William and Frances Stuple Bess. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two nieces, Torri Sanders and Abigail Baker. Russell served in the United States Army. Surviving are three Sisters, Karen B. Carter and Billie Jean Harless, both of Covington and Susan Kalnes of Chicago, IL. And a number of nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. Edith Toombs Pettitt, 94, of Covington died Monday, March 29, 2021,at the Brain Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Low Moor. She was born January 2, 1927, in Covington a daughter of the late Charles K. Toombs and Edith Beatrice Fridley Toombs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin Jerman, and her husband, Leonard Pettitt, one son, Paul Jerman and one daughter, Kathleen Walker. Mrs. Pettitt had retired from the H.O. Canfield Co. as an inspector. She was also member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Debbie S. Humphries, 69, of 2406 Dressler Drive, Covington, passed away from a long battle with dementia on March 26, 2021 at the Brian Center in Low Moor. Mrs. Humphries was born April 16, 1951 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late John and Mary Williams Seldomridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law Roscoe E. Humphries and Mickey S. Humphries. Debbie was retired as a bank teller in 2007 after 37 years having worked for the former Covington National Bank then First Virginia Bank in Covington. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved traveling, especially to the beach, and spending time with her beloved dog, Snickers. Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Roscoe R. Jessie Franklin Morris, loving and devoted husband and father, passed away at the age of 88, at his home in Covington, Va. His faith, love, and commitment to The Lord was his guiding light throughout his life and it brought him comfort in his final hours. His kind and compassionate spirit will always be remembered by his family and friends. He was born to Emmett R. Morris and Josephine Tyree Morris in 1932 in Iron Gate, Va. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters. He was the last surviving member of his family. Jessie enlisted in the 227th Army National Guard, in Covington, Va. in June 1950 at 18 years old. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and immediately reported for active duty in the United States Army and served at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Jessie served at Fort Wood until 1953 when he was honorably discharged to return to Covington to assist his family during a time of hardship. He remained in the Army Reserve from 1953-1957. He w...

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Trysta Holland Tingler, of Salem; his son, Damien Tingler, of MD, his brother, Ben Drewry, of Roanoke, two step sons Jacob and Steven; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Kenneth Richard Lane, 74 of Covington, Va, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Sunday March 21, 2021, at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Va. Kenny fought a long hard battle, but eventually succumbed to the disease vasculitis. Kenny was born April 16, 1946 in Cannellton, WV. He graduated Richwood High School in Richwood WV in 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents William Richard and Mary Katherine Lane, and two brothers and one sister. Kenny is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years Sue, his son Rob and wife Stephanie of Staunton Va, two precious granddaughters Emma and Sara, two special nephews Mike and Tim Green of Covington, a special cousin Joe Pritt of Summersville, WV, a brother and sister, and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
