Donald Gene Nida, 79, of 341 Horse Mountain View, died, Friday March 11, 2016 at Lewis Gale Alleghany in Low Moor. He was born November 20, 1936 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Henry L. and Lillian Plymale Nida. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Nida. Mr. Nida served his country with the United States Navy and was a member of the Virginia National Guard for 26 years. He retired in 1996 from the Covington School Board as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was an active member of Covington Ruritan Club and attended Faith Baptist Church. Jack Lee Fridley, 85, of Covington, died March 11, 2016 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. He was born May 25, 1930 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Walter T. and Stella McDaniel Fridley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Margaret "Toad" Wilmer and Agnes Via and one brother, James "Chink" Fridley. Mr. Fridley proudly served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he was a prisoner of war. He retired in 1995 from the Mill Room with H.O. Canfield. Mr. Fridley was a member of Cliffdale Christian Church. Jack was an avid cattle farmer, loved his grandchildren and he enjoyed telling numerous stories, including the history of Rich Patch. Lenwood Bowers "Sardy" Anderson, 80, of 905 Potts Creek Rd., died Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Mr. Anderson was born October 1, 1935, at Oriskany in Botetourt County, the son of the late Max Anderson and Ruth Bowers Anderson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two infant children; three brothers Mont Ray Anderson, Charles "Corky" Anderson, and Boyd "Bo" Anderson and a sister Arlene "Sis" Anderson He served our great nation in the U. S. Air Force and later worked at Hercules Inc. until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Triple Springs Hunt Club. Steve Alexander Dudley, 76, of 704 S. Highland Ave., died Monday, February 22, 2016, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Dudley was born May 14, 1939, in Botetourt County, a son of the late Charles William and Mary Catherine Dunbar Dudley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Dudley and Bishop Earl Dudley and four sisters, Mary Ann, Edna, Shirley and Hannah. He served his country with the United States Air Force and was a devoted member of the Church of God. Mr. Dudley was employed as a pulpwood truck driver. Surviving are his wife, Lea B. Dudley, of Covington, one daughter, Debbie, of Texas; four sons, Robert E. Dudley of Covington; Steve A. Dudley, Jr. of Indiana; Charles A. Dudley of Ohio and John A. Doris Ann Carter Craghead, 85, passed away on February 21, 2016, in Chandler AZ. She was the daughter of the late Roy Carter and Reba Stone Carter Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Jesse J. Craghead, in 1992. Surviving are her Daughter and Son-in-law, Susan and John Malette of Fort Mill, SC; her Son and Daughter-in-law, Dana and Sandy Craghead of Chandler, AZ; four grandchildren, Mallory Craghead, Amanda and Ryan Day and Madison Craghead of Arizona and Jessica Malette of South Carolina; one Brother and Sister-in-law, Roy Burton and Beverly Carter of Beckley, WV. Robert Lewis "Buck" Brookman, 66, of 2906 Valley Ridge Road passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016, with his family around him after losing his battle with cancer. Buck was born November 8, 1949, in New Castle a son of the late Henry Lewis Brookman and Mary Katherine Hinkle Brookman. He enjoyed being in his woodworking shop and was known for raising exotic birds, which he did for many years. Buck also loved his classic cars and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a partner with his brother in Brookman Brothers Excavating Company for a number of years. Arthur Sullivan "Butch" Kimberlin, Jr, 72, went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2016. He was born in Portsmouth, VA, on August 5, 1943, and had resided in Goshen VA for the past 15 years. He went to Groveton High School in Alexandria, VA, before becoming a professional painter, as well as a professional carpenter and handyman. Butch led a full life and was well loved by everyone who knew him. Throughout his life, he never knew a stranger and was always willing to do whatever he could to help a friend. Susanne Retzlaff "Susi" Shaver, 50, 366 Forestry Road, Hot Springs, died, at her residence. Mrs. Shaver was born November 21, 1965 in Arlington the daughter of John Retzlaff and Gudrun Petermann Retzlaff. Susi was a graduate of Bath County High School. She loved to travel and became a flight attendant for a number of years. She became a homemaker and loved caring for her family including her dogs, Karli, Bailey, and Libby. She was an avid sports fan, following her children during their high school sports careers. Susi was employed for nine years at Laura's Boutique and was most recently the hostess at Les Cochons d'Or in Hot Springs.
