Frances Moats Riley, 76, of Covington, died, June 18, 2019 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor. She was born April 3, 1943 in Doe Hill,Highland Co. the daughter of the late Clarence Moats and Clara May Simmons. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Samuel F. Riley Jr. in 1992, a son William Riley in 1975 and Roscoe and Beulah Simmons whom she was raised by. Mrs. Riley was homemaker. She loved her grandchildren and her flowers. She also love to play bingo and go to yard sales. Surviving are four sons Samuel F. Riley III, Scherrile L. Riley and his wife Melenie, Richard Riley and his Fianc Mary Fridley and Thomas C. Nannie McDaniel Hill, 92, of Clifton Forge, died, Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Lewis-Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital. She was born May 11, 1927, in Alleghany County a daughter of the late Edgar M. McDaniel and Nannie Howard McDaniel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first Husband, Charlie Rupe, her second Husband, Ovid O. Hill, a granddaughter, Angela Hogan, one brother and four sisters. Mrs. Hill retired in 1989 from Alleghany Apparel Inc. with seventeen years of service as final inspector. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel. United Methodist Church at Scott Hill. Surviving are her Daughter, Carrie McAllister, and her Husband, Gary, of Covington; her Son, Charles Rupe, and his Wife, Kathy, of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, David McAllister, Chris Rupe, Chasity Ellis and Duane Rupe and a number nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Matheny Donnally, 98, died Wednesday, June 13, 2019, at the Woodlands Nursing Home in Clifton Forge. Mrs. Donnally was born September 7, 1920, in Covington a Daughter of the late George and Hope Loving Matheny. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Brother, Thurston Matheny, a granddaughter, Tammy Caul Carter, and a grandson, Lucas Riley. Elizabeth worked for many years as the manager of Sidney's clothing store, but was most proud of the work she did for the Lord as a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible moderator, class president and president of the Women of the Church. She received an Honorary Life membership from the church. After retirement, she spent many years raising her grandchildren. Helen Craft Smith, 76, of 100 Parkview Ave., died Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Mrs. Smith was born October 18, 1942, in Alleghany County a Daughter of the late Harry and Lena Bess Craft. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Surviving are her Husband, Robert D. Smith, of Covington; her Son, Anthony "Tony" Lewis, and his Wife, Dawn King, of Covington; her Grandson, Kyle D. Betty Jackson Heighter, 86, of 227 S. Marion Ave., died, Saturday June 8, 2019 at her home. Mrs. Heighter was born May 26, 1933 in Covington the daughter of the late Lawrence and Virginia Harris Jackson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband in November 2018; Lorenzo E. Heighter, a daughter Katina Heighter; two sisters Dorothy Ross and Lena Jackson. Betty retired from the former Alleghany Regional Hospital as a food service worker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church on Lexington Ave. Surviving are two daughters Diane Heighter of Covington and Lisa Simmons and Husband, Wayne, of Bristow, VA. Alma Frances Usery Fridley, 89, of Conyers, GA and formerly of Covington, died June 2, 2019. Mrs. Fridley was born July 24, 1929, in Alma, Georgia, a daughter of the late Thomas H. and Minnie Usery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Leo Fridley; and one brother, Thomas "Sonny" Usery. Frances was a lifelong NASCAR fan and enjoyed pulling for her favorite drivers, Richard Petty and Jeff Gordon. She enjoyed car rides on country roads, the music of Luke Bryan and Billy Currington, and taking pictures of old style homes and barns. She was also an avid gardener, having been especially proud of her tomato plants that grew to over six feet tall. Calvin Kester "Cab" Reed, 91, of 6101 Bens Run Rd, died, Tuesday May 28, 2019 at the Springs Nursing Home in Hot Springs. Mr. Reed was born November 21, 1927 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Ernest Lee and Bessie Frances Hoke Reed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Calvin was a veteran with the United States Navy during World War II. He retired as a mechanic from the former Hercules, Inc. He was a life member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #610 also a former member of the Bordenier Riding Club. Christine Bernice Tingler Schettino, 83, formerly of 238 E. Gray St., died, Friday May 24, 2019, at the Brian Center in Low Moor. Mrs. Schettino was born September 2, 1935, in Alleghany County a daughter of the late Lecky and Emma Kimberlin Tingler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Adam Schettino, in 2001. Christine retired as a press operator/ inspector for the Harvey Hubbell Plastic Company in New Town, CT. She was a member of the Midway Christian Church and loved gardening and going to yard sales and flea markets. Surviving are her companion, Rodney "Joe" Smith Sr., of Covington; her son, Stan Walker, of Ohio, and her daughter, Elizabeth Walker, of Connecticut.
