Doris Wilcher Fridley Reynolds age 63, of Covington, died, Friday September 7, 2018 in Lewis-Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital. Mrs. Reynolds was born May 30, 1955 in Alleghany County. She was the daughter of the late Roy Allen Wilcher and Beulah Caldwell Wilcher. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her second husband Dallas Reynolds, two granddaughters Taylor Fridley and Aline Fridley Doris was a Beautician for many years and was member First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Covington. Surviving are four sons Anthony Fridley and his wife Kristen, Eric Fridley and his wife Janice Fridley all of Johnson City, TN, Jeremy Fridley and his wife Connie, and Travis Fridley and Casey Hinkley both of Covington, six step children, also surviving five grandchildren two them whom she raised Megan Fridley and T.J. Doris Wilcher Fridley Reynolds age 63, of Covington, died, Friday September 7, 2018 in Lewis-Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital. Mrs. Reynolds was born May 30, 1955 in Alleghany County. Joyce Pearl Burchett May, 77, of 106 Whitney Rd., died, September 2, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. May was born March 2, 1941 in Kentucky the daughter of the late Ovel Kenton Burchett and Ethel Lucille Burchett. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Juanita White, her great grandchild Camden Hendrick, her mother in law, and other in laws. Joyce was a former baker at Wal-Mart in Kentucky. She loved to fish, cook, have a big garden with flowers and vegetables, and collect home interior items like figurines and pictures. Adam Keene Byrd, 77, of 4772 Sam Snead Highway, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at his residence. He was born September 29, 1940, a son of the late Julian M. Byrd, Jr. and Dorothy Keene Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Julian M. Byrd, III. Mr. Byrd was a graduate of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He was owner of Byrd Enterprises for 30 years. He was a past president of the Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce. Keene loved playing golf and was a Historian for the Homestead in Hot Springs. He loved life. James Carl Baker, Sr., 75, 1325 N. Alleghany Ave., died Friday August 31, 2018 at the English Meadows Elks Home in Bedford. He was born May 28, 1943 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Ohmar and Lizzie Smith Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by six brothers and sisters. Mr. Baker retired from the Power House at Westrock after 43 years of service. Jim was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was an avid bowler, loved hunting and camping and was a member of the Ponderosa Hunt Club. Jim was a loving Husband, father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Uncle. Berland Edward "Doc" Bailey, 81 of 405 Bailey's Rd., died Tuesday August 28, 2018. He was born September 15, 1936 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Lacy and Nora Persinger Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred Bailey, Arnold Bailey and Robert "Babe" Bailey. Mr. Bailey had farmed most of his life and was a former employee of DD Kerns as a Truck Driver. He was a member of Mountain Valley United Methodist Church. Surviving are his two brothers, Ernest Bailey and Jim Bailey, both of Covington; six sisters, Nadine Tucker and her husband Jim; Alice DePriest; Eldise Gilbert; Mary Austin; Jenny Kitt and her husband Sam and Sue Menifee and her husband Nathan, all of Covington; his special companion, Loriane Selleck of Covington and number of nieces and nephews. Luther Udell Bowen, 85, of 4414 Dunlap Creek Rd., died Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at his residence. He was born April 16, 1933, in Alleghany County, a son the late William M. and Leona Switzer Bowen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Bowen and Alvin Bowen and by a great granddaughter, Abigail Cable and two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Bowen served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1995 from the Via Sawmill in Louisa and had delivered the Richmond Times-Dispatch newspaper in Louisa for a number of years.
