Miriam Goodwin Anshutz, 93, died Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the Brian Center Nursing Care in Low Moor. Mrs. Anshuntz was a former resident of Blue Spring Run Road for many years. She was born May 16, 1924, in Alleghany County a Daughter of the late Orley Emmett Goodwin and Selena May Long Goodwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Thomas Eugene Anshutz, in 2011 and by her Son, Timothy Anshutz. She is survived by her caregivers, Kenneth and Sue McClung of Covington. In accordance with her wishes, her body has been donated to medical science. Richard "Ikey"

Charles Richard "Ikey" Walton, 81, of Covington, left this life for his heavenly home on January 22, 2018 with his family by his side. Mr. Walton was born April 24, 1936 in Pence Springs, WV the son of the late John L. Walton and Annie B. Walton. He was the last surviving member of his 9 brothers and sisters; Julian Walton, Delbert Walton, Fronia Fury, Geneva Ellis, Florence Huffman, James Walton, Berman Walton and his twin brother Leslie Walton. In addition to his brothers and sisters he was preceded in death by his in laws Arthur and Etna Weikle who loved him dearly like their own, three grandchildren and a daughter in law Dustin Walton and Candace Walton and their mother Peggy Walton and Greg Smith. He proudly served his country for 9 years in the United States Air Force. He retired from Westvaco in 1998 where he worked on the No. 8 paper machine for 38 years. Rhoda Virginia Twitty Lewis, 53, of Richmond, died Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Springs Nursing Home in Bath County. She was born December 8, 1964, in Covington, a daughter of the late Charles E. Twitty, Sr. and Mary Graves Twitty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, David M. Lewis in 2017. Rhoda attended the public city schools in Covington, graduating from Covington High School in 1983. While in school she was a phenomenal basketball player. She outscored both the girl's and boy's records with 1,535 points which held firm for 30 years before another female basketball player broke the record. She graduated in 1988 from Saint Paul College in Lawrenceville, VA, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. While attending Saint Paul College, Rhoda played on the women's basketball team scoring 1000 points. In May of 2016 Rhoda received her Master's Degree in Psychology from North Central University. Thomas Addison "Bo" Williams, 71, of 212 W. Ridgeway Street in Clifton Forge died Saturday, January 13, 2018, at his home. Mr. Williams was born October 1, 1946, in Covington a son of the late Thomas Norris Williams and Icie Meadows Williams Webb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Daughter, Lisa Dawn Williams, a Son, Thomas A. Williams, Jr., a Brother, Charles Wayne Williams, and a Sister, Judy Woodie. Bo met his wife, Judy Gallew, when they were both infants. Their families lived next door to each other and while only weeks to a month old, their mothers touched "Bo" and Judy's heads together over the fence. Unknown to their parents, they grew up to marry, have kids and grow old together. He enjoyed hunting before sunrise and often times didn't make it home until mid-evening. He was always early enough to eat his wife's cooking, which he always enjoyed. He was famous for his homemade pound cakes for which his family and church family made regular requests...

Kenneth Melvin Meadows, 73, of 135 7th Avenue in Neola, West Virginia, died Thursday January 11, 2018, at his residence. He was born July 19, 1944, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Melvin Meadows and Martha Ward Meadows. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 3 infant sons. Kenneth retired in 2008 as a stationary engineer with Wal-Mart in Covington. James William "Jimmy" Burrell, 68, of 1110 Richmond Street, Selma, died Wednesday January 10, 2018, in Hopewell VA after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Burrell was born May 7, 1949, in Greenbrier County, WV, to the late Robert Lee and Ella Elizabeth Henson Burrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Brother, Randy Lee Burrell and a Brother-in-law, Buford Bennett. "Jimmy" was a former member of the Virginia National Guard. He also retired in 2009 as a brakeman/conductor with CSX Railroad after 30 years of service where he was a brakeman/conductor. Ira Edward Wiley, 91, and Ruby Knick Wiley, 90, of 462 East Dolly Ann Drive died in Lewis Gale Medical Center at Salem. Ed died Monday, January 8, 2018, and Ruby died Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Ed was born June 6, 1926, in Bath County a son of the late Oscar and Clara Wolfe Wiley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Wiley. . He was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Navy. He had retired from Pronto Press and was part owner of General Printing. He was a member and former Deacon of Covington Baptist Church. Vina Mae Johnson St. Clair, 95, formerly of Covington, died Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Lynchburg General Hospital. Mrs. St. Clair was born September 9, 1922, at Eagle Rock in Botetourt Countv, a daughter of the late Cary B. and Carrie Kidd Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Roy H. St. Clair, in 1999; two brothers, Harold Johnson and Ernest Johnson and a grandson Larry Johnson. Ronnie Lee Lacks, 69, of 204 Big Run Road died Thursday, December 28, 2017, at his home. Mr. Lacks was born March 5, 1948, in Alleghany County a son of the late Floyd William and Anna Rhodes Lacks. He was the owner and operator of Lacks Towing. He enjoyed his towing business, drinking coffee and playing the lottery. Surviving are his Son, Ricky Lacks and Janet Smith, of Covington; three Brothers, Jerry Lacks of Covington, Bobby Lacks and his wife, Sue, of Hot Springs and Jimmy Lacks and his wife, "Buddy" of Tennessee; his beloved cat, Sam, and several nieces and nephews.
