Wanda Wainright of 111 Hidden Valley Road, Covington, Va, went home to be with the Lord April 28, 2016. She had been ill for some time. Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Thomas Crook, and second husband of 15 years Grady Wainright She leaves behind two brothers Horace (Buster) Daniel of Tennessee, and Wayne Daniel of Austin, Tx. a daughter and son in law Beverly and Frank Hepler of Covington, Virginia, a son and daughter in law Tom and Cheryl Crook of Frisco, Texas. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had made numerous friends while living in Covington, Va. and was a member of the Senior Friends and Lone Star Baptist Church. She enjoyed living in Covington. Her internment will be in Rome Georgia. If you would like to do something in memory we suggest a donation to Lone Star Baptist Church or to the Gideons. A memorial celebration of her life will be held in Covington at Lone Star Baptist Church at a later date....

Cynthia Ryder "Cindy" Crookshanks , 46, of 811 Oneida Trail, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Cindy was born May 5, 1969, in Bath County, a daughter of Charles Ryder of Warm Springs and Mary Cauley Ryder of Covington. She was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her Step-mother, Sandra Ryder, of Warm Springs; her Maternal Grandmother, Frances Cauley and Wayne Kicherer, of Covington; three Brothers, Charles Ryder, Jr. and his wife, Tammy, and Barry Ryder and his wife, Debbie, all of Hot Springs and Cody Ryder of Lynchburg; one Step-sister, Suzanne Ostling, and her husband, Kris of Covington; one Step-brother, Eric Huffman and his wife, Crystal, of Sinking Creek, WV and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Earwood officiating. Ben Cobbs was born October 17, 1946 in Covington, Virginia. He was the fourth of eight children born to George and Clara Barber Cobbs. Ben graduated from Watson High School in 1966. After high school he lived and worked in Newark, New Jersey. When his employer Savoy Records moved to Connecticut, Ben moved with the company to Connecticut. Ben later moved to Los Angeles, CA where he lived for several years. While in Los Angeles, he was a member of the choir at the church where the gospel legend; James Cleveland was pastor. Returning to the East Coast, Linden, NJ; Ben went into retail sales which he enjoyed. He remained active in his music, singing with his church choir and with other choirs. He later returned to Covington where he worked at Walmart and continued his ministry of music. Ben will be remembered lovingly by family, friends and community for his kindness, generosity, talent, and last but certainly not least, his fabulous sense of humor. Angela Denise Crutchfield Dressler, 43, of 405 E. Detroit Street, died, Sunday April 24, 2016 at her residence. She was born March 9, 1973 in Harrisonburg, a daughter of Kathryn Lockhart Crutchfield of Covington and the late Barry Crutchfield. In addition to her father, Angela was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Ruel Crutchfield and also by her maternal grandparents, Norris G. and Nadine W. Lockhart. Angela was a CNA at the Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge. She was a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church. She was a member of the McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church Adult Handbell Choir and the Adult Senior Choir. Gerald Leamoine Wolfe, 81, of 6804 Potts Creek Road, died, Sunday, April 17, 2016 at his residence. He was born April 12, 1935, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Leffel B. and Dora Jamison Wolfe. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wolfe was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters. Mr. Wolfe retired in 2009 as concrete truck driver with Aggregate Construction in Beltsville, MD. Norman Ashley Bess,74, of 7807 Mill Branch Rd., died, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at his residence. He was born January 3, 1942, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Melvin S. and Orpah Tucker Bess. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Korman, and a brother, Ryland Bess. Mr. Bess was a former employee of AMOCO Chemical in Akron, Ohio and had retired from Mizzy Inc, in Clifton Forge. He was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church. Peter Paul Persinger, 72, of 716 E. Morris Hill Road, died Saturday April 16, 2016 at Bath County Community Hospital. He was October 25, 1943 in Alleghany County, a son of the late James H. Persinger Sr. and Wanda Evelyn Rucker Persinger. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Pritt Persinger in 2007 and also by two brothers, James H. Persinger, Jr. and Harry A. Persinger, Sr. Mr. Persinger retired after 48 years of service from Meadwestvaco as an Oiler. He was a member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church. She was born March 30, 1936 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Floyd and Virgie Fridley Wolfe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Brookman in 1995; one sister Lillian Redman and three brothers, Edward Wolfe, Joe Wolfe and Ronnie Wolfe. John Delbert "Duck" Via, Sr., 68, of 1249 S. Mound Ave., died, Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.
He was born July 14, 1947 in Alleghany County, a son of the late John E. and Gladys Agnor Via. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Wayne M. Via in 2015.
Delbert served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Via retired from MeadWestVaco in the Store Room. He loved motorcycles, and his 48 Pickup. He had a love for his Country and was a "people" person. Delbert enjoyed having yard sales and going to flea markets. He was a member of the Parrish Court United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Wheeler Via of Covington; three sons, Jon Delbert "J.D."
