JOSUE DAVI CABALLERO Josue Davi Oliva Caballero, infant son of Cynthia Susan Baker of Covington, died March 4, 2015. He was born March 4, 2015 in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte, WV. Josue Davi was preceded in death by his maternal Great Grandfather, Edgar Baker. In addition to his mother he is survived by Ever Donabo Oliva Caballero of Covington; a brother, Javier Franscs Flores of Covington; maternal Grandmother, Cindy Baker of Covington; Maternal Grandfather, Stephen Hodge of Warm Springs; Maternal Great Grandmother, Jane Baker of Covington; one Aunt, Mercedes Baker of Covington and one Uncle, Eric Baker of Covington. A graveside service will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at 1:00 PM in Alleghany Memorial Park. Stephen Andre "Looney" Smith, 58, of 1023 Lincoln Ave., died, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Lewis gale Alleghany in Low Moor. He was born June 12, 1956 in Clifton Forge a son of Gilbert P. and Aletha Sampson Smith of Covington. Mr. Smith retired from the former Alleghany Regional Hospital in the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Loooney is survived by a daughter Tamuna Smith and her fianc Chris of Roanoke; two brothers, Gilbert Smith, Jr. of Covington and Barry Smith of Staunton; two sisters, Aurelia Jackson and Jeff Jefferson of Baltimore , MD and Tawanna Smith of Covington; a special friend, Myrtle Robinson of Covington and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts ,uncles and cousins. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Cannon officiating. The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Yvonne Cecile Gaines, 34, of Covington died Saturday, February 28, 2015, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born February 22, 1981, in Alleghany County a daughter of Eugene and Linda McCulley Gaines of Covington. Yvonne was a 1999 graduate of Alleghany High School and was employed as a CNA at the Golden Living Center at Clifton Forge. She was preceded in death by a Brother, Jayson Gaines, in 2012, and also by an infant child. Surviving in addition to her parents are two Daughters, Kira Gaines and Brooklyn Gaines both of Covington; two Sisters, Teresa Spangler and Helena Hubble and her husband, Joe, all of Covington; one Brother, David Gaines, of Blacksburg and a number of nieces and nephews. She was born January 17, 196,1 in Riverside, NJ, a daughter of VanNetta Breward Zerbey Duckett of Henderson, NC, and the late Russell Zerby, Sr. Mrs. Bates was employed at Boys Home, Inc., for the past 15 years and was currently serving as the Administrative Assistant for Program. Mildred Jennings Thurston, 90, of 2820 S. Gum Ave., died Monday February 16, 2015 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional. Mrs. Thurston was born May 14, 1924 in Alleghany County the daughter of the late Christopher Pollard Jennings and Cindy Kelly Jennings Arrington. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William J. "Bill" Thurston in 2014, a son Larry Gene Thurston in 2009. Mildred was a former employee of the Industrial Rayon Plant. After she worked at the Grants Department Store and later retired as manager of K-Mart. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and later attended Calvary Baptist Church She loved her family and friends as family. She had smiles, hugs, and kisses for everyone. Her dedication to her faith in Jesus Christ is what was important and evident in her daily walk. Zula May Stinespring Tingler, 88, of Covington, went to her Heavenly Home, Wednesday February 11, 2015. She was born May 24, 1926 in Covington, the first born of Harry Lee Stinespring, Sr. and Mary Lee Hill Stinespring. In addition to her parents, Zula was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, as well as two brothers, Jack Stinespring and Harry Stinespring, Jr. and one sister Teeny Plogger. A lifelong resident of Covington, Mrs. Tingler was raised in the Epworth Methodist Church which later became Christ United Methodist Church. She was always a very active member and enjoyed time with her church family. Zula was well known to many as a babysitter for over 20 years. She always poured out much love to all those around her. She was born February 18, 1944 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of Lucile Wykle of White Sulphur Springs, WV. Jeanette was a homemaker and loved her family dearly. She was known throughout the community for her love of baking. Brenda Reed Tuttle, 63, of 200 Cool Valley Lane, died, Saturday, February 7, 2015. She was born April 28, 1951, in Staunton, a daughter of the late Robert Reed and Claudine Carper Reed. Brenda was an employee of Phoenix Maintenance Inc. in Covington. Surviving are her daughter, Tabitha Humphreys and her husband, Kenny, of Waynesboro; her son, Shea Tuttle of Covington; three grandchildren, Meagan McDorman of Waynesboro; Glen Morris of Raphine and Sierra Hott of Covington and her sister, Joyce Reed of Waynesboro. In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 15, 2015, at 2:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel. William Mackensen "Bill" Dressler, Sr., 99, of 604 Dolly Ann Drive, died Wednesday, February 4, 2015. He was born June 13, 1915 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Rufus O. Dressler and Minnie Stoup Dressler Landis. Mr. Dressler owned and operated Dressler Motors, Inc., an automobile dealership in Covington for over 50 years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and later attended Edgemont Presbyterian Church. Bill belonged to numerous organizations: the Covington Lions Club where he served as President and Delegate to the 1960 International Convention in Chicago; Covington Lodge #610; Loyal Order of Moose; Clifton Forge Elks Lodge; Curtis A. She was born June 12, 1931 in Vienna, Austria, a daughter of the late Joahann and Sophie Harring Csokay. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elwood Nicely; her second husband, Eldridge Cooke; two sons, Roger Nicely and Randolph Nicely; one brother, Emmerich Csokay and one sister Mitzi Muhm. Mrs. Cooke had retired in 1992 from Jackson River Internists as a medical assistant.
