Delores Stone "Mickey" Humphries age 85 of Covington died Saturday, January 12, 2019, in the Brian Center Rehabilitation Nursing Care at Low Moor. Mrs. Humphries was born August 29, 1933, in Alleghany County, a daughter of late Murriell Dayton Stone and Mabel Huffman Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Roscoe E. Humphries, in 2013. Mrs. Humphries was an employee of the former Leggett Department Store in Covington. Surviving are her Son, Roscoe Humphries, and his Wife, Debbie, of Covington; two Sisters, Margie Young and her Husband, Buddy, of Covington and Tootles Tingler and her Husband, Roger, of Covington, GA; two Brothers, Dayton Stone and his Wife, Penny, of Clifton Forge and Gary Lynn Stone of Graham, NC, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 2:00 PM at the graveside in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Bowser officiating. Patricia Ann Pleasant, 75, of Covington,VA transitioned on Wednesday January 9, 2019. She fought the good fight, but submitted to the Master's call at the LewisGale Medical Center in Roanoke, VA Born in Covington, VA on February 6,1943, to the late William Frank Pleasant and Frances Elizabeth Reid Pleasant, she was one of seven children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Edgar Paul Pleasant, James K.P. Pleasant, Thomas Lee Pleasant, and Robert Henry Pleasant. She graduated from Watson High School the class 1960 in Covington, VA. She attended St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA and Radford University in Radford, VA. She returned to Covington to teach and was affectionately called Ms. P. by many students. She impacted their lives as a teacher and librarian for over 40 years in the Alleghany County Public School system. She was a dedicated volunteer of the Total You After School Program, where she read stories, mentored and supported the many childr...

Wanda Dale Clark Craft, 87, of 1521 Mountain View Drive died Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Snyder Nursing Home in Salem. Mrs. Craft was born December 24, 1931, in Alleghany County a daughter of the late Harry Clark and Roxie Peters Clark McGlothen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband of 63 years, James E. Craft, Sr., in 2013; three brothers, H.E. "Buddy" Clark, Wiley Clark and Emmanuel Clark and two sisters, Helena Muriel Piazza and Audrey Clark. She had retired from Leggett/Belk in Covington and later worked at Peebles and Hallmark. She was a longtime member of South Covington United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities, her favorite being the choir. She will be remembered by all of us for her Sunday dinners, including fried chicken, green beans and, of course, dessert. She was known for her pies and cakes at family reunions and church dinners. August 19, 1922 - December 30, 2018 Honest and determined with great strength of character...!!! Age 96 years, Predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Raynell Vas Dias (nee Armentrout). Joe served his country in WWII as a Sergeant in the campaign to liberate Italy. A proud member of the 5th Army, 338th Infantry, 85th Custer Division, they marched into Rome in June 1944. Joe was raised from the age of 2 in Hot Springs. As a teenager he worked at The Homestead as a personal groom for Mrs. Ingals' horses, often riding in shows for her. Also at the tennis courts, and as a lifeguard at the indoor pool. After the war, Joe attended college in New York City while working at the Waldorf Astoria for his father who was the comptroller. Back in Covington he worked for Dressler Motors, then Hercules for 20 years as a supervisor. Upon retirement he went to work for the Forestry Service at Lake Moomaw, Gathright Dam for 15 years. He was born September 11, 1924, in Alleghany County a son of the late John Henry Browning and Eathie Gaines Browning. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Browning was a retired self-employed timber cutter.
Surviving are his Son, Howard F. Browning, Jr., and his wife, Wendy, of Covington; twelve grandchildren, Ginger Browning, Frankie Browning, Misty Browning, Marie Browning, Ashley Browning, John Browning, Jesse Browning, Angel Browning, Bubbie Browning, Cheyenne Browning , R.
