Gwendolyn McCormack Lindsay, 81, of Roanoke, died Saturday March 11, 2017 at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Roanoke. Mrs. Lindsay was born March 30, 1935 the daughter of the late Lewis and Elaine Downes McCormack. She was also preceded in death by a sister in law Gabriele McCormack and a brother Bill McCormack. She retired after 30 years with the Western Electric Company in Baltimore, MD. She most recently worked as a secretary with the Virginia Cattle Association and was a member of the Bonsack United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the P. Buckley Moss Society. Surviving are her husband of 59 years Robert P. Lindsay of Roanoke, a sister Carolyn M. Tony Jeffrey Caldwell, 33, of Low Moor, died, Tuesday March 7, 2017 at Lewis Gale Alleghany. Mr. Caldwell was born December 19, 1983 in Alleghany County the son of Richard and Darlene Warden Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ruby and Lloyd Warden and Cecil and Deloris Caldwell and a brother Derick Caldwell. Tony was employed with Littleton and Associates for a number of years and attended First Assembly of God Church in Clifton Forge. Surviving are his parents, two sisters Amanda Caldwell of Clifton Forge and Sandra Caldwell of Roanoke, three brothers; David Caldwell of Longdale, Ricky Caldwell of Covington, and Frankie Caldwell of Clifton Forge, God parents Steven Vess and wife Becky, a God Sister Stacey Vess, and God Brother Little Steve Vess all of Iron Gate, a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Edmund Frank Byer, Sr., 89 of 3717 Upper Rich Patch Rd., died on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin, VA.
He was born March 11, 1927 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Daniel Carper Byer and Mary Fridley Byer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Goldie Byer in 2006 and also 4 brothers, three sisters, and three great grandchildren.
Mr. Byer served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an employee of the former Hercules, Inc; He retired as school bus driver after 26 years from Alleghany County School Board and was employed by the former C.B. Nettleton Inc.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Edmund and Barbara Byer, Jr. of Qwinwood, WV; Jimmy and Sandy Byer of Covington and Randy and Penny of Stuarts Draft; Two daughters and sons - in-law , Brenda and Skip Farley of Goldsboro, NC and Mary and Larry Bland of Dublin; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.

John William Craft Jr., 85 of 205 Big Mountain Rd, died Friday March 3, 2017, at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Craft was born May 26, 1931, in Alleghany County the son of the late John W. Craft Sr. and Edith Bush Craft. He was also preceded in death by a Son, William Eugene "Gene" Craft, in 2005 and a Daughter, Linda Renee Craft, in 2013. Mr. Craft was a veteran of the Korean War with the U.S. Navy. He was a retired letter carrier with the United States Postal Service and a member of First Christian Church. John was an avid outdoorsman. He is survived by his Wife of 62 years, Rosemary Wright Craft, of Covington and a Son, John Randall "Randy" Craft, of Salem. Robin Wayne "Robbie" Weese, 59 of 406 Winding Way, died Friday March 3, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Weese was born October 19, 1957 in Bath County that son of Dorothy McElwee Weese of Covington and the late Elmer L. Weese Sr. Robbie worked at Meadwestvaco in the maintenance department until he retired. He was a Presbyterian by faith and coached many sports in the Highlands for a number of years. In addition to his mother he is survived by a son Brandon Weese, and a brother Elmer Weese Jr. and his wife Debby all of Covington. The funeral service will be held Tuesday March 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Bowser officiating. The family will receive their friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.

Sue Hall Melinda Griffin Hall, 66 of 410 W. Ridgeway St. Clifton Forge, died, Sunday February 19, 2017 at her residence. Mrs. Hall was born March 11, 1950 in Alleghany County the daughter of the late Frank and Pauline Lowry Griffin. She was also preceded in death by her husband Douglas C. Hall Sr. and two brothers. She was a waitress at the bull pen restaurant. She is survived by a daughter Melissa Williams and husband Richard of Covington, a son Douglas "Buddy" Hall Jr. of Roanoke, two grandchildren Cassidy Williams and Kiersten Williams both of Covington, a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend Ron Puglisi of Clifton Forge. In keeping with her wishes her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 6:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Hammond officiating. The family will receive their friends following the service.

Melinda Griffin Hall, 66 of 410 W. Ridgeway St. Clifton Forge, died, Sunday February 19, 2017 at her residence.

Martha Lou Herman, 83, of 4680 Sam Snead Highway, died Friday, February 17, 2017, at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem. Miss Herman was born September 9, 1933, in Bath County a daughter of the late Morris and Rebecca Cauthorn Herman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Brother, Charles Herman, and her Sister, Mary Hart. She was a teacher in the Bath County school system for over 40 years. She was a longtime member of the Healing Springs Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school, played the organ and sang in the choir. Melvin Glenn Anglin, 72, of Covington, died, Sunday evening, February 12, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born February 8, 1945 in Beckley West Virginia, a son of Mary Fotos Anglin of Clifton Forge and the late Robert Glenn Anglin. He served his country with the United Sates Army and was stationed in Korea. Mr. Anglin retired from MeadWestvaco as Store Room Clerk. He was a past President of the 675 United Steel Workers Union.
