James Leroy Goode, Sr., 80 of 135 N. Monroe Ave., passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. He was born August 12, 1935 in Virginia, a son to the late Hampton and Hattie Goode. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goode was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Goode retired from MeadWestvaco in the Boiler Room. He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church where was a member of the Men's Fellowship and the Usher Board. He was a dedicated family man, an avid Outdoorsman, and a huge Washington Redskins Fan. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Doris Umbles Goode of Covington; six children, James L. Matthew Leonard "Matt" Paxton, 31, of 1534 S. Howard Ave. died Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Carilioin Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.
Matt was born January 25, 1985, in Alleghany County a Son of Gary and Tanya Mays Brackenbridge of Covington. He had been employed for the past two years with Hammond-Mitchell, Inc. in Covington.

Audrey Wright Barner, 68, of 309 Jonestown Road, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday August 7, 2016 following an extended illness. She was born December 12, 1947, in Alleghany County a daughter of the late Harry Wright and Shirley Wright LaDue. Audrey was a graduate of Alleghany County High School and Leonard's School of Beauty in Richmond, VA. She was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church and her hobbies were painting and working in her flower beds. Cora "Butch" Caldwell, 78, of Sweet Chalybeate, passed away on August 6, 2016, surrounded by family at St. Mary's Hospital in St Louis, MO. She was born October 2, 1938 in Zanesville, Ohio. Butch was preceded in death by the love of her life, William "Bill" Caldwell, and is coming home to be laid to rest beside him. She was born June 10, 1943, in Leonard Town, Maryland, a daughter of Mildred Taylor Carpenter of Low Moor and the late Lawrence Eugene Carpenter. Claudette Clapsaddle Wince, 69, of 3702 Potts Creek Road died Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Mrs. Wince was born May 23, 1947, in Clifton Forge a daughter of the late Thomas R. and Bernice Snyder Clapsaddle. She was a licensed beautician and had worked in several area beauty shops. She had retired from the Covington Walmart store in 2001. She is survived by her Husband of 47 years, Daniel Wince, of Covington; her Sister, Trina Clapsaddle, of Covington; her Brother, Tommy Clapsaddle, of Covington; Nephews Robert Thomas ; Dwayne Clapsaddle and Patrick Clapsaddle, all of Covington and several great nieces and nephews. Mary Ann Humphries Sizer, of 9207 Potts Creek Rd., died Monday, July 25, 2016, at her residence. She was born in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late George Howard Humphries and Rosa Crowder Humphries. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sizer was preceded in death by her Husband, Andrew Walker Sizer, in 1970 and also by two sisters, Violet Loan and Lula Mae Paxton and one brother, Jimmy Humphries. Emma Josephine Childs Powell, 95, of Covington passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Brian Center in Low Moor.
Jo was born October 22, 1920, in Fincastle, a daughter of the late James G. and Mary Riddlebarger Childs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband of 40 years, John Leslie Powell; a Daughter, Susan Saul, and four sisters and two brothers.
She was an employee of the former Leggett Department Store in Covington for many years. Jo was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had been a charter member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a member of the Women's Mission group at Calvary Baptist Church and dearly loved all her friends in the group. Mrs. Powell loved to garden, cook and entertain during the holidays. She was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother.

George Guy Puffenbarger, 77, of Low Moor, died, Friday July 15, 2016, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born March 13, 1939 in Highland Co., the son of the late Thornton G. Puffenbarger and Bessie Lambert Puffenbarger. In addition to his parents, he preceded in death by two sisters Dolly Andrews, Mary Andrews, and two brothers Clifford Puffenbarger and Robert Puffenbarger. Surviving are his niece Michele Hylton and husband Jon of Low Moor to whom he made his home with. Also surviving a brother-in-law Wayne Andrews of Covington; a sister-in-law Shirley Puffenbarger of Hot Springs and a number nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be Monday at 6:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Todd Lynn officiating. The family will receive their friends following the service. She was born June 3, 1947 in Clifton Forge, a daughter of the late Raymond Odie Miller and Roxie May Wolfe Miller. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Tingler in 1992 and also by a brother, Marvin Tingler and a brother-in-law, Marshall Hadden.
Mrs. Tingler was a machine operator with the former Halmode, Inc. She was an avid Redskins fan.
