Herbert Jackson Craft, 88, of Charlotte, NC., formerly of Covington, died, Thursday March 26, 2015, in The Laurels and Haven in Highland Creek Nursing Home. Mr. Craft was born November 11, 1926, a son of the late William Roscoe and Ethel Kittenger Craft. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his Wife, Elizabeth Swain Craft, in 1996, and by three Brothers, Theo Craft, James Craft, and Bo Craft. He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army. He was a retired foreman for the Charlotte Observer newspaper. Surviving are his Son, Herbert "Jack" Craft and his Wife, Lisa, of Charlotte, NC., his Daughter, Jan Elliott and her Husband, Kenny, of Lynchburg; his Sister, Rachael Rock, of Covington, his Brother, Jerry Craft, and his Wife, Christine, of Heidelburg, Germany, and a number of nieces and nephews. Frenchie Novella Wood Snead, 98, of 103 Sherry May Street, passed away at Lewis- Gale Hospital in Low Moor on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Frenchie is predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Roy W. Snead: parents Howard Book and Eva Cole Wood; Sisters, Gladys Wood Key and Catherine Wood Hylton; brothers Everett Glen Wood, Howard Eugene Wood, and Emmett Winston Wood. Surviving is one sister Mabel Wood Daughtery of Covington, and two sister-in-laws, Lillian Wood of Covington, and Mary Wood of Kaiser, WV; her sons William H. Lucille Clark Pedigo, 88, 123 Bellegray Lane, died, Monday evening, March 23, 2015 at the Brian Center in Low Moor. She was born April 18, 1926 at Renick in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Floyd L. and Nora McMillion Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Pedigo in 1986 and also by two sisters. Mrs. Pedigo was an employee of the former Industrial Rayon Corp in Covington. She worked for a number of years with the Alleghany County School System as a cafeteria worker at Alleghany High School and Callaghan Elementary School. Mrs. Pedigo also served as cook at Tanglewood Manor. She was a member of First Christian Church and of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. William Edward "Billy" Moore, 92, of Covington, died Tuesday March 17, 2015 at the Richfield Health Center in Salem. He was born March 10, 1923 in Walnut Cove, NC., a son of the late Andrew Lewis and Lillian Pullen Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Anderson Moore in 2011, a sister, Margaret Childs and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Childs Mr. Moore served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. He retired as a machine operator from the former Hercules, Inc. after 20 years of service. Prior to working at Hercules he had been employed for 15 years at the former Industrial Rayon. He was a member of the South Covington United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Bible Class. James Eric Shinault, 70, of 119 Cline Meadow Road died Monday, March 16, 2015, at his home. Mr. Shinault was born September 19, 1944, in Alleghany County a son of the late Raymond R. and Elizabeth Miller Shinault. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Raymond Shinault, McKinnley Shinault, Tollace Shinault, Jerry Shinault, Donnie Shinault and Dennis Shinault and by one sister, Evelyn Clark. Mr. Shinault had retired in 2007 from the Contractor Sales Department of the former True Value Hardware Center in Covington. Since his retirement he had served as a parts deliveryman for Wilson's NAPA store in Covington. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the U. S. Army. Mrs. Wright was born November 13, 1951, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Emmett W. Wright, Sr. and Carrie Beckner Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Emmett Wright, Jr. and Jerry Wright. Carolyn was an avid gardener and a devoted bingo player. Marlene Brewster Fisher, 80, of 4401 Midland Trail died Friday, March 13, 2015, in Lewis Gale- Alleghany Hospital at Lowmoor. Mrs. Fisher was born June 21, 1934, in Alleghany County a daughter of the late John Brewster and Florence Vance Dressler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Jesse Fisher; her Daughter, Penny Rivers; two sisters and two brothers. Surviving are two Sisters, Pauline Hippert of Covington and Nancy Malcom of Lowmoor, and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes, her body has been cremated. Surviving are two uncles, Vaughn Roberts of Covington and Dale Roberts of Eagle Rock; five nieces, five nephews and several cousins. Mrs. Lair was born October 22, 1921, in Alleghany County a daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Burks Doss. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Earleen Doss, and her Husband, Thomas David Lair in 1999; three Sons, Buddy Unroe, Wayne Unroe and Eddie Unroe; a Son-in-law, Wilbur Persinger, and a Daughter-in-law, Dot Unroe. Fraley of Charlestown, WV and Mary Ann Hall of Covington. Dennis was a member of the First Church of God in Rockville, MD. He was preceded in death by his wife Gerri Fraley and also by his step- father, Jack Hall. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Diana Farkas and her husband Michael of West Palm Beach, FL and Linda Sprouse of Covington a special friend, Jack Sivley of Princeton, WV and numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Richard Lee Akers, 88, of Covington passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Veterans Care Center in Roanoke. He was born March 5, 1927 at Prudence, West Virginia in Fayette County, a son of the late John C. and Margie Ganoe Akers. In addition to his parents Mr. Akers was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Walton, Lorene Taylor and Maxine Bennett. Mr. Akers served during World War II with the United Sates Navy. He retired in 1974 from the former Hercules, Inc. in Covington. Prior to moving to Covington he had been a coal miner in West Virginia. Mr. Akers was a Past Commander of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Life Member of the Coleman Brinkley Post 4204 and he was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
